MEDIA about usMOSCOW, January 15th, 2021 - RIA Novosti"Rostec”: The polyethylene "Sotnik" will surpass any bulletproof vest in protection. As a basis for equipment of the third generation "Sotnik” (that means “centurion”), which is planned to be created to replace the "Ratnik” (that means “warrior"), there is considered an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber " "Thanks to the new materials, the set of equipment "Centurion" will get a record low weight and the ability to fit the anatomical features of the fighter. As a result, the protection will not restrict movements and will allow the fighter to take an additional weight necessary to perform special missions. At the same time, the equipment will have increased protection in comparison with existing types of bulletproof vests," the State corporation said. In the future, "Sotnik" will not only stop the shrapnel flying at a speed of up to 670 meters per second, but also extinguish the shock pulse, which can cause serious damage to internal organs even without breaking through the protection. "We expect to get such an effect through the use of special shock-absorbing means," the State corporation explained. As the director of Rostec’s weapons complex, Bekhan Ozdoev, told RIA Novosti in November last year: ”Sotnik will be lighter, more ergonomic, more reliable and more technologically advanced than “Ratnik”.
MEDIA ABOUT US On January 13th, 2021 In January 2021 (No. 2 from 13.01.2021) the newspaper of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation "Red Star" published an article written by Director General of the Center "Armokom", chief designer of the security system of military combat equipment, honored scientist of the Russian Federation Eugene F. Kharchenko "The Armor will be lighter and stronger" about ultralight composite materials from ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber developed in our Institute. Despite the unfavorable economic situation, Russian chemists from “VNIISV” (Tver) have created and continuously improve domestic ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene fibers. Their specific strength reaches 350 cN/tex, that is almost 1,5 times higher than that of the best aramid fibers of "Kevlar" type (USA). On the base of UHMWPE fibers, Russian specialists have made composite armor elements to protect the vital organs from hand-held firearms and the legs of military personnel from shrapnel. Unlike foreign technologies, these facilities of armor protection were first made by winding. “Thus, in Russia there has appeared a new class of highly effective ballistic and structural composite material, which can be brought to practical use by advanced domestic enterprises and research teams charged with a wish of winning over foreign competitors." "Red Star", 13.01.2021 (No. 2, p.8) The article "Armor protection will be lighter and stronger" is published in the Internet resources http://redstar.ru/bronezashhita-stanet-legche-i-prochnee/
